Was Jesus the Son of God?

The most important question of the Christian faith -- "Is Jesus the Son of God?"

"the high priest asked him, "Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?". I AM, said Jesus and you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven." (Mark 14:61-62)
Jesus called Himself many things, all of which would point to the fact that, Yes, indeed He was the Son of God. In the book of John, He clearly stated who he was. "What about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, "I AM GOD'S SON?" (John 10:36)

Jesus claimed to have existed before Abraham's day when he identified himself with the words "I AM." He claimed to come from heaven. (John 6:31-38) He said that He was completely united with God the Father and that if you've seen him, you've seen the Father. He claimed to be the truth (John 14:6), the way, the door to salvation, the Word, the bread of life and He told the woman at the well that He was the Messiah. He told the pharisees that He and the Father were one and that all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to him. (28:18) He told the Jewish leader, Nicodemus that He must be lifted up (on a cross) so everyone who believes in him may have eternal life. This life is in the Son. God did not send His Son into the world to condemn but whoever does not believe stands condemned already."In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Through Him all things were made. In him was life. The light and the life shine in the darkness, but the darkness does not understand it. The world does not understand him but those who place their faith in Jesus Christ, those who say "yes" to receiving the precious gift Jesus came to give, those who accept his sacrifice of death so that they could move from the darkness of the world to the light of his love, they understand. God's love and forgiveness are real and Jesus is proof of that. "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth." (John 1:14)

The Jews insisted, "We have a law and according to that law, he must die because he claimed to be the Son of God." (John 19:7) And that is exactly what He did. He died for you and for me for the forgiveness of our sins. "For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16)

"Father, the time has come. Glorify Your Son, that your Son may glorify you. For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life...Now this is eternal life; that they may know you, the only true God and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent." (John 17:1-5)

Jesus' primary purpose in coming into the world was to die as the Perfect Lamb of God to heal humanity's broken relationship with God and to rise from the dead to bring eternal life to mankind. Only Jesus truly knows the Father. (Matthew 11:27) Anyone coming to God must come through Jesus (John 14:6) Only those who love the Son are loved by the Father for the Father lives and expresses himself in his Son. (John 14:10-23)
"this is the will of God, that you believe in the one he has sent." (John 6:29)
